Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
